Update on Videos

Due to trouble animating the title sequences, our first three videos will be slightly delayed.

The NST is on its way!

Just ordered an 8kv 30mA neon sign transformer for the Tesla coil. It will be featured in its own video.

Plasma Box!

This is the driver with a modified capacitor and transistor/heat sink inside a cardboard box which I so artfully decorated with tape and Sharpie.

Mmm. I Smell Burning Silicon.

Running a plasma globe driver on doubled power level:
Would not recommend.

I modified some parts on the PCB in hopes of increasing the power output. This worked perfectly, but then I had the stupid idea to try running it on that 17W power supply. Because of the capacitor change and the bigger power supply, the board got toasted (smoke, horrible smell).

Right now I'm waiting for it to cool down. If I fried the transistor, that's not a disaster, because I can swap it with one of the 2N3055's I have lying around.

Plasma Globe Driver

It's best to start small, right?

This is the inside of a plasma globe. It's a pretty tame high-voltage circuit.

We will be making a video or two about our experiments with this transformer.

As a side note, I found a 17 watt power supply that someone was throwing away. We are thinking of making a video featuring that as well.

Secondary Coil Winder

I recently started a summer project: Building a Tesla coil!

The secondary didn't come out flawlessly, but it's close enough. I built this little winding jig to help me make all 1,200 turns nice and neat.

This is the final product:
